Purple fur Blindfold Review

April 12, 2012 The purple fur-lined blindfold by Spartacus is one in a line of furry purple bondage and BDSM items. You can deck out your entire dungeon – or bedroom – in leather and fur, with a feminine touch, with these items.

• Pros

  - pretty good at blocking out light
  - fit over the nose

• Cons

  - a bit large on smaller faces or heads

The leather blindfold is cut to contour around the face, unlike many of the flimsy, free blindfolds that are available as “gifts” with other items, to completely block light and motion. This ads an element of exciting helplessness to your play.

BEST USE
This blindfold is pretty good at blocking out light because it's wider and contoured to fit over the nose. However, it's also a bit large and can feel large on smaller faces or heads. For example, I sometimes feel like my leather blindfolds reach far down to my cheek bones; however, those with longer faces might not feel this way.

SIZE, SHAPE AND DESIGN
It measures about 8 ½ ” from edge to edge of the leather. The eye pieces are 3 1/2” at their widest. The elastic straps measures 13 ½", without being stretched, and is about 1” in width, which is common for this type of blindfold.

PACKAGING
The blindfold does come folded in the package, so the indent may cause more light to slip in around the nose. You can lay it flat, under a heavy book to try to undo some of this. I would personally store it flat, like I've done with blindfolds in the past.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
The faux fur of these pieces is soft and short. Depending upon your preferences, this may tickle against your eyelids or offer a bit of soft padding, especially during longer play. It may become too warm with prolonged use, or if you're participating in activities that make you especially sweaty. The fur will soak some of that up and a wipe with a damp cloth will help to rinse it away. Similarly, wiping the exterior leather with a damp cloth will clean off any lubes, sweat or other residues.

EXPERIENCE
Because of the heat, I wouldn't wear this as a sleep mask, which I've done with blindfolds in the past. It would become too uncomfortable over time.

PERFORMANCE
The fur and leather are stitched together securely around the edges, which you can see in the product images. There is a single elastic strap sewn to either edge of the blindfold. It works well, as long as your head is the size of, or larger than, the strap itself. If it's smaller, you'll find it to be loose and it will slip. Similarly, movement of the head during play can cause this blindfold to slip, requiring you to adjust it to keep your partner blinded.

MATERIAL AND TEXTURE
It's a shame that the wearer won't be able to see how attractive this blindfold is. The black is deep and shiny, because of the leather, while the faux fur is a warm medium-dark purple that works well if you also pair this with the matching wrist or ankle cuffs, round paddle or rectangular slapper from the same company – Spartacus.
